Purchased my 1980 928 just 2.5 months ago as a Christmas present to myself.

Noticed a slight ATF leak. Recently noticed initial slow response in gear shift until few minutes after start up, assume until ATF gets warm. Checked ATF level thinking was low and actually looks high.

Please see attached photos. Is the ATF level too high? Level should be in the notch, correct?

If too high could that be causing overpressuring and the leak? Hopefully it hasn't caused any major damage to seals

Should I remove ATF fluid unitl at the notch level? from what I have read online ATF fluid in 928s is very sensitive.

You did not mention the procedure you used to check, but you have to have the car running to check the ATF. If it is not to the top when not running you are likely already too low! So start the car and check it if you see no or very little oil, then you need to add some.

You will likely need to get the car up on jack stands (with lift bars preferably as well) because you also have to add the oil while it is running! otherwise it will never be enough when it sucks what is in the gauge into the tranny.

The procedures etc are in the library or tech discussion section. Also check that everything is tight while you are under there.
